ĂN ĐIỂM TUYỆT ĐỐI PART 5 TOEIC - PHẦN CHIA ĐỘNG TỪ : TO V - VING

 

Một trong những vấn đề đau đầu nhất mọi người gặp phải khi làm bài là CHIA ĐỘNG TỪ TRONG NGOẶC.  Làm sao để biết lúc nào chia thì và không chia thì (V-infinitive, V-ing,…). Bài viết này sẽ giúp mọi người tiếp cận vấn đề một cách hiệu quả nhất.

GERUND

TO-INFINITIVE

1. Cách sử dụng   ·     Là chủ ngữ của câu: Swimming is a good sport. ·     Bổ ngữ của động từ: My hobby is collecting stamps. ·     Là bổ ngữ: Seeing is believing. ·     Sau giới từ: I am looking forward to going to Paris. ·     Sau một vài động từ: stop, admit, suggest,… 2. Một số cách dùng đặc biệt ·     Những động từ sau được theo sau bởi V-ing: admit, avoid, delay, enjoy, excuse, consider, deny, finish, imagine, forgive, keep, mind, miss, postpone, practise, resist, risk, stop, remember, forget, regret, suggest, like, propose, detest, dread, resent, pardon, try, fancy. Ex: –       They denied copying the information. –       Would you consider lending her money? –       He avoids answering my question. –       The committee has postponed writing the report. ·     Verbs + prepositions: apologize for, accuse of, insist on, feel like, congratulate on, suspect of, look forward to, dream of, succeed in, object to, approve/disapprove of… ·     Gerund cũng theo sau những cụm từ như: –       It’s no use / It’s no good… –       There’s no point (in)… –       It’s (not) worth … –       Have difficult ( in) … –       It’s a waste of time/money … –       Spend/ waste time/money … –       Be/ get used to … –       Be/ get accustomed to … –       Do/ Would you mind… ? –       be busy doing something –       What about … ? How about …? –       Go + V-ing ( go shopping, go swimming…)

Cách dùng To-infinitive:   1. Verb + to do Những động từ sau được theo sau trực tiếp bởi to-infinitive: agree, appear, arrange, attempt, ask, decide, determine, be determined, fail, endeavour, forget, happen, hope, learn, manage, offer, plan, prepare, promise, prove, refuse, remember, seem, tend, threaten, try, volunteer, expect, want, mean,… Ex: – Please remember to return the book tomorrow. – I tried to move the table, but it was too heavy. – I promised to vote for him. – I am sorry, I forgot to lock the car. 2. Verb + how/ what/ when/ where/ which/ why + to do Những động từ sử dụng công thức này là: ask, decide, discover, find out, forget, know, learn, remember, see, show, think, understand, want to know, wonder… Ex: – She discovered how to read the code. – I don’t know what to say. – He couldn’t remember where to come. – I showed them which way to go. 3. Verb + Object + to do Những động từ theo công thức này là: advise,allow, enable, encourage, forbid, force, hear, instruct, invite, let, order, permit, persuade,request, remind, see, train, urge, want, tempt… Ex: – The teacher permitted us to go out. – I wouldn’t advise you to buy the car. – Her father forbade her to go to the party. – We persuaded him give us his phone.

 

* Note: Một số động từ có thể đi cùng với cả động từ nguyên thể và V-ing, hãy so sánh sự khác nhau về ý nghĩa giữa chúng.

Stop Ving: dừng làm gì (dừng hẳn)

Stop to do: dừng lại để làm việc gì

Ex:

– Stop talking: dừng nói chuyện

– Stop to talk: dừng lại để nói chuyện

Remember/ forget/ regret to do: nhớ/ quên/ tiếc sẽ phải làm gì(ở hiện tại – tương lai)

Remember/ forget/ regret Ving: nhớ/ quên/ tiếc đã làm gì (ở quá khứ)

Ex:

– Remember to read the instructions: Hãy nhớ đọc kỹ hướng dẫn.

– Don’t forget to lock the door: Đừng quên khoá cửa nhé.

– I regret to tell you that you have failed: Tôi rất tiếc phải thông báo rằng bạn đã trượt.

– I don’t remember meeting Susan before: Tôi không nhớ đã từng gặp Susan trước đây.

– She will never forget visiting Paris: Cô ấy không bao giờ quên chuyến du lịch tới Paris.

–  I regret telling lies: Tôi hối hận vì đã nói dối.

Try to do: cố gắng làm gì

Try Ving: thử làm gì

Ex:

– He tries to complete the mission: Anh ấy cố gắng hoàn thành nhiệm vụ.

– I tried phoning his number: Tôi đã thử gọi cho anh ấy.

Like Ving: Thích làm gì vì nó thú vị, hay, cuốn hút, làm để thường thức.

Like to do: làm việc đó vì nó là tốt và cần thiết

Ex:

– I like playing basketball

– He likes to cook for his daughter.

Prefer Ving to Ving

Prefer + to do smt + rather than (do) smt

Ex:

– I prefer eating to thinking.

– I prefer to eat rather than think.

Need to do: cần làm gì

Need doing: cần được làm gì (= need to be done)

Ex:

– I need to finish my homework today.

– Your hair needs cutting. (= your hair needs to be cut)

Used to do: đã từng/ thường làm gì trong quá khứ (bây giờ không làm nữa)

Be/ Get used to Ving: quen với việc gì (ở hiện tại)

Ex:

– I used to stay up late when I was a student: Tôi từng đi ngủ rất muộn khi còn là học sinh.

– I’m used to staying up late: Tôi đã quen với việc đi ngủ muộn.

Advise/ allow/ permit/ recommend + Object + to do: khuyên/ cho phép/ đề nghị ai làm gì.

Advise/ allow/ permit/ recommend + Ving: khuyên/ cho phép, đề nghị làm gì.

Ex:

– I recommend her to buy the car.

– I recommend buying the car.

– My dad don’t allow me to go home after 10pm.

– My dad don’t allow going home after 10pm.

See/ hear/ smell/ feel/ notice/ watch + Object + Ving: cấu trúc này được sử dụng khi người nói chỉ chứng kiến 1 phần của hành động.

See/ hear/ smell/ feel/ notice/ watch + Object + V: cấu trúc này được sử dụng khi người nói chứng kiến toàn bộ hành động.

Ex:

– I saw her cleaning the kitchen.

– She hears you singing everyday.

– We watched you unlock the safe.

– We all felt the house shake.
